Why Comet C/2012 S1 ISON is special

Hubble Telescope Photographs Potential 'Comet of the Century'

NASA's iconic Hubble Space Telescope has snapped stunning new photos of Comet ISON, which could become one of the brightest comets ever seen when it zips through the inner solar system this fall.

Hubble captured the new photos on April 10, when Comet ISON was slightly closer than Jupiter. At the time the icy wanderer was about 386 million miles (621 million kilometers) from the sun and 394 million miles (634 million km) from Earth.

The new images are already helping astronomers take a bead on the mysterious Comet ISON, which may shine as brightly as the full moon when it makes its closest pass by the sun in late November. (The comet poses no threat to Earth, NASA has said.)

Astronomers are keeping a close eye on a newly-discovered Comet ISON, which could become visible in broad daylight later this year when it skims through the atmosphere of the sun.

COMET C2012 S1 (ISON) SIMULATION (HD)

Publiée le 1 janv. 2013

This video shows a simulation of the comet C2012 S1 (ISON)

The simulation starts from outer space, but viewing point moves on the Earth in November, when the comet is shown even in daylight. Viewing location is Netherlands.

The simulation program is Starry Night Pro Plus with the latest ISON (c/2012 S1) NASA - JPL's HORIZONS system ephemeris.

In November 2013 if Comet survive we will see the spectacle of the century.

You can see pictures and videos after I upgraded my telescopes and cameras deep-sky imaging.
